About Jasmine

I was born in South Orange, NJ to a midwestern raised father and a Savannah and Bronx raised mother.

I have been a writer since I learned the alphabet, writing everything from impassioned journal entries as an adolescent to pilot-length scripts in college. This is where my dreams start, with the pen, the story.

Storytelling is my passion. Writing, film and photography are my chosen mediums. I have explored documentary and narrative filmmaking with the intention of sharing significant stories and raising awareness of injustices. My accolades in film include winning Best Youth Documentary at the St. Francis College Women's Film Festival as well as being a nominee in the youth division of the Tribeca Film Festival. Both were for my film SchoolHouse Glock about the youth response to gun violence in America in 2018 after the Parkland Shooting.

In 2021, I was selected to participate in the Fujifilm Create Forever Students of Storytelling program alongside two other creators to develop a short film incorporating Cautious Clay's performance with Artist's Den.

I am a freelance photographer and videographer working with individuals, non-profits, and media companies to capture a variety of events and stories, including grad shoots, baby showers,  live music recording sessions, and behind the scenes for short films.

I often work at Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV) as a teaching artist with the Youth Media Program. We work with students ages 14-21 teaching the fundamentals of filmmaking, specializing in documentary filmmaking, media literacy, and professionalism. We lead them through the production process and executive produce their short films that have gone on to win awards at various prestigious film festivals.

In May of 2023, I graduated from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television. I continue to pursue my vocation by working the path towards being a writer and producer for film and television while also helping other artists bring their own visions to life. When I'm not working on my craft, I enjoy making themed playlists, cooking new recipes, and exploring new parts of the city and the world at large.
